Seven Geographic Wonders of Israel

Brief

The goal of this program is to share personal Israel-related experiences and stories. Suggestions to encourage sharing and listening in a respectful and non-judgmental environment appear at the end.

Equipment

  • 7 information sheets on the 7 wonders of Israel

  • Sheets with maps of Israel sufficient for all campers

  • Materials to decorate maps (construction paper pieces, beans, glue, markers)

Activity length: 60-70 minutes 

  • Introduction (5 minutes)

  • Groups prepare presentations, including individuals maps (15 minutes)

  • Groups make presentations (35 minutes)

  • Conclusion (5 minutes)

Goals & Overview

  1. Campers will be introduced to seven/geographic areas of Israel.

  2. Campers will be introduced to the extreme topographical and environmental diversity of the land of Israel.

  3. Campers will be introduced to the idea of the relatively small size of Israel.

For the facilitator

This program is intended as a fun experience for campers to become familiar with the various regions in Israel.  Through the preparation of presentations, campers can be encouraged to demonstrate excitement about the particular area assigned to their group.

Program

  1. The facilitator introduces the session, explains that the purpose of the activity is to learn about and promote a region in the land of Israel for entry in the Guinness Book of World Records.

  2. The facilitator divides the group into seven smaller groups and distributes an information sheet to each group.  Groups should be supervised by a madrich/madricha.

  3. Each group learns about their region and prepares their presentation to vie for entry in the Guiness Book of World Records.

  4. Optional:  Campers can make individual maps of Israel, possibly highlighting their region, using the provided template and craft materials.

  5. After an appropriate amount of time the group reconvenes.

  6. The facilitator invites each group to make its presentation about its assigned region, attempting to create excitement and enthusiasm for its content.

  7. At the end of each group’s presentation, the facilitator decides if they can enter the record book..

  8. The facilitator concludes the activity by reviewing the seven regions that were presented.
